Free Radio Santa Cruz raided by the FCC

Just in from KGNU:
On Wednesday September 29th at 9:20 AM armed federal marshalls and FCC agents served a warrant at the studio of Free Radio Santa Cruz. They have confiscated equipment and shut down the broadcast.

 

Free Radio Santa Cruz has been broadcasting for 10 years now without a license. They are outside the mainstream spectrum. A community radio for the community, without advertisment, and without corporate or governmental control. Apparently this is too dangerous a thing in a democracy.

Do the people from Free Radio Santa Cruz know how deeply linked their activism is to ours? That a free electromagnetic spectrum is a pre-condition for wide application of technical revolutions like community-based meshing networks made of stationary and mobile wireless internet appliances?

In any case, I applaud them for what they have achieved, and what they are fighting for. They deserve our support. If you are in the area, consider helping out the Free Radio Santa Cruz in whatever small way you can.
