[From FFII] The European Commission's CORDIS news service has reported that the decision of the "political agreement" of the Council of Ministers on software patents is losing support among other national governments, including Denmark, Germany, Poland, and Portugal, following the withdrawal of the Netherlands vote by the Dutch Parliament. Of course, things aren't going quite that swimmingly - the Dutch vote is still a "Yes" for the Council proposal. They have not withdrawn it, and according to their Minister they will not withdraw it.

UK people may also want to look at the latest things our top pro-swpat Conservative is saying: Malcolm Harbour is now saying that the Parliament has lost it's chance for participation in this legislation. Strong words indeed.

Dan had the idea of establishing a permanent irc channel on freenode. The idea is that it could be an informal place to chat about coding in and for libraries. It's a newbie friendly channel so feel free to join us if you've never used irc before...and if you are a veteran that's ok too :-)
